Board Staff

There are two office staff positions responsible for administering Board functions and serving the state's public and opticians. As well, contractual inspectors visit and hold optical businesses and training establishments to compliance standards. The Board has legal representation by private counsel (Nichols, Choi & Lee, PA) and through the Office of the Attorney General (NC Department of Justice).

Executive Director - Sue Hodgin

Sue Hodgin has rejoined the Board staff as its Director. Formerly Sue Kornegay, she retired from full-time employment with NC State Government and the Board in 2013, and worked for a time with the law firm that represents the Board. (The State Ethics Commission approved contractual managements services provided through the Board's law firm during that time.) Now with her return, she is a part-time employee with the Board for its full management provisions.

Program Assistant - Neet James

Neet James is that 'first voice' heard most often on the telephone. A native of NC, she spent several years working with the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System as a counselor-administering and advising members of the statutes, rules, and regulations that govern the multi-tiered programs. She joined the Board staff in 2015, as Program Assistant on a part-time basis, and was made a full-time employee in 2016. She enjoys working with the opticians, trainees, and optical businesses in the state who work hard to maintain the high standards and practice of Opticianry.
